I am currently getting quotes from contractors to side my home. they range from $18,000 - $7500. What I am confused on (the price differences of course) but also, only one contractor told me he was going to remove all the shingles before siding. (he was the quote in the middle, $9500). which is the correct way to go? the others were going to cover over. Helpless in NJ

Deah Joiseygoil,
Hi again. Go for the middle guy. But, make sure that he quoted insulation wrap and sealing in his quote.

Make sure the bids are not 'apples vs oranges'. There are a wide variety of vinyl siding products from 'el cheapo' to very heavy duty. I'll be building later in an area prone to hail damage and have been warned against normal vinyl siding and recommended to vinyl covered steel siding. Just a thought. Check that all bids are for the exact same product - one that you pick.
