We have a ceiling fan/light fixture that is about 15 years old. It came with a lifetime warranty (some exclusions). This was not a cheap fan (about $300) and still looks like new. The problem is that the fan makes horrible noise when running in any speed. It runs fine in any speed other than the noise. It does not wobble. Reading up on possible problems I am wondering if it is the belt. However, if the belt is the problem, is it something that can be easily replaced OR is it not worth my time & effort?

Almost no ceiling fans have belts in them. They are direct drive with the blades mounted to the motor.

I replaced one that was about 15 yo that the blades mounted to rubber spider and that spider had broken.

Most likely it is the bearing(s). But note that there are a few fans that have oil reserves that need to be filled (some Orginal Hunter Series). But that would be clear in the instructions.

Time to contact the manufacture.

In my original entry I intended to mention the manufacturers name "Airmark Products" and that I've researched them every way I can think of and it appears they are out of business since our purchase from 1992. I was researching hoping they had been bought out and that the new company would honor the warranty. However, I contacted the better business bureau in their original address area and they have no record of them and checked the USA database and had no record. So returning to the original manufacturer to take advantage of warranty is not possible. I mentioned "belt" as a possible problem because their warranty does not cover belts. However, maybe this model doesn't even have a belt.

So if it is the bearings, is there anything that can be done cheaply? Or am I better off replacing the fan?

I found one reference to Airmark.

You might contact them and see if they know of the new name/ower or if they can repair it.

I see that they have flywheels and if that is broken it might make a noise, but them the blades would probably drag and it would be clear.

I would say in general that a company that specializes in ceiling fans might be able to repair it at a reasonable cost.

Or a DIY that has some mechanical skills and is willing to track parts and see if they are generic and do it at NO COST.

But in general it would not pay to have some one try to repair it. Just researching parts would probably cost more than that of a new fan. And even then no guarantee that they could get them.

I had seen that site and actually tried to send a letter to their fax number about 2 weeks ago but it would never go through. I think tomorrow I will try their phone number and see if I can get through. My hope had also been that since they sold Airmark parts that they could tell me if another company had bought Airmark out, therefore taking out their warranties.

I have also gone through an internet site ( who gave me a company in my city who has been recommended as one for me to contact to see how they work at checking out ceiling fans. If I can take it down and take it to them to check it out at a reasonable fee, I know how to do that as I've put togehter & installed a couple other ceiling fans in our home the last few years.
