I recently purchased a new window air conditioner, thinking I was matching with what was there. The plug is correct for the receptacle, however, the air conditioner does not turn on at all. Before I tear it apart again, Would the amp difference make the electrical controls not come on at all? If so, how difficult is it to replace the amps, and what should I be looking for?

Have you verified that there is power at the receptacle? If you have a circuit protected by a 15A breaker and an appliance that requires a 20A circuit, you may have tripped the breaker.

Before you change anything you need to determine what you have. What is the breaker size? What is the wire gauge? What are the AC's power requirements?
