The power in two rooms of my 4 BR house keeps tripping off. When I go to the breaker box, the corresponding switches are not tripped, but when I trip them off and then on, the power is restored. Then after a while it repeats.

Please any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks;

David

I am assuming that this are standard breakers and not GFCI or AFCI (no test button).

The handles on most breakers are called "free trip" and don't move when they are trippged.

But when you move them to the OFF position and then back to the ON position you can feel the difference between on that has been tripped and one that is not.

DO you feel that?

You did not indicate of the size or age of the house or what is being used (electrically) in those rooms.

But the most common reason is that the circuit is overloaded.

Also it might "worn out" breaker that is tripping at less than rated value. Poor connect for the wire to the breaker or the breaker to the bus which causes local heating.

Or it might be an intermediate shorting in the circuit.

Thanks Billhart;

The house is less than two years old, and this morning I turned on the lights in both rooms, and the power tripped. Nothing else was on at the time. Also, the breaker for these rooms is the type with a little white button that lights up when it is tripped. With this problem, the button is not lighting up, it's as if it's not a complete tripping.

I am not familar with a breaker with a light on it.

But based on the age of the house there is a good chance that you have an AFCI. Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter.

What is the brand of the breakers?

AFCI have a type of ground fault detector and will trip the wiring is miss wired.

Any lights, receptacles are switches been changed recently?
