I have moved into a new house and there were 2 sets of flood lights on the back. One is motion and one is not. The one that is not has the bulb loosened so that it won't come on. I was going to install another set of motion lights but when I went to install them the directions say not to have 2 sets of motion flood lights on one switch. Why won't this work? Can I install them or will it make both not work?

Thanks for your help.

I know of no reason to not allow more than sensor light to be controlled by a wall switch.

Possible poorly worded translation.

It IS common that motion sensors are limited to rather small wattage -- usually 150-200 Watts. That is enough for the typical 2 floodlamps at 75W each. But the instructions often say that you can't wire extra floodlamps into the circuit, because this would overload the sensor switch.*

That may be what the instructions are saying (or intended to say). Like Bill said, poor translation is quite possible.

*There is a way around this, if you want 3 or 4 floodlights all controlled by one motion detector switch -- use CFL (compact fluorescent lamps) instead of incandescent floodlamps. The CFL ones only use about 10-20W, instead of the 75 for incandescent. So you could actually wire up half a dozen to a dozen of them to a single motion sensor.

"Most" compact fluorescents that are available at building supply houses are not designed to work on electronic devices such as photo-cells or motion sensors or electronice timers, dimmers, etc. they will blow out the electronic ballast in the fluorescent lamp. it is printed right on the side of most compact fluorescents..... there are compacts that will work, but they cost around 16 dollars each, and most people dont want to spend that much for a bulb...
