We're moving into a previously-owned house, & the bathroom ceiling looks like it's in tough shape. I'm hoping we can just scrape & re-paint (that remains to be seen); when we repaint, is there a good waterproof, mildew-proof paint that we could use?

Both in my own home and clients', I use Pratt & Lambert flat, "One Coat White" Accolade enamel. Much nicer than a semi-gloss. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

For any bath, ventilation is also critical. Crack a window at least once a day. Use the fan when showering. (Yeah, I hate the noise too!) Keep the door open when not in use. This not only helps the paint, but also will diminish green slime on tiles, grout, etc.
