I think we can handle the cleaning & painting of the paneling with all of the good advice from all of you. How though, can we either paint over or remove the "plastic" piece that was inserted when the paneling was installed to cover all the seams? Not sure if it can be removed without ruining the paneling due to part of the piece is hidden underneath the paneling and the other part shows on top.
