We just bought a 140 yr old house that has ceilings I've never seen before. The paint does not adhere to this kind of ceiling, and very room is peeling. I do not want to lose the detail in the ceilings, especially in the hallways / stariways, as it iis curved and has much more detail than a new ceiling would. Any suggestions on:
What the ceiling are made of?
What to use to get paint to adhere?

Before you go any further you may want to have painter come and look at this, it is too hard to tell sight un-seen on a 140 yr house. Maybe if you posted more detail about the ceilings.
