Hi, I love the look of the Ralph Lauren suede paint. However, I have heard rumors that the stuff can be a bear to work with, the quality of product is questionable, etc...Does anyone know of another product that would be better that produces the same effect? We are in the process of completely redoing a portion of our house, and I was about to buy this paint, but heard how tempermental it could be to work with.Help! Thanks in advance, SP

The stuff takes a while to get applied evenly. Like I used to do with stucco paint (ugh!), roll it on then brush over it with a stiff brush, such as used with wallpaper paste. Quality is top-notch,IMO. You can also buy sand additives to put into any can of paint. Not as subtle a finish as the suede, but it can work.

In my experience with R.L. suede paint I have found that the best way to achieve good results is to paint first with a flat latex paint that matches the color of your finish. Then apply only one coat of the suede finish. Be sure to follow the directions on the can that explain to apply the paint with a brush making x's on the wall top to bottom. Be sure you brush each stroke into the wet paint and not pull from it. When making x's this seams awkward, but is very important to keep from getting unwanted lines in the finish.
