i am trying to figure out how much it is going to coast to fiish my basement. wondering if anyone knows what the going rate is per foot for hanging and finishing drywall.

It depends where you live. What may be cheap in Bogg Hollow, would bankrupt you in New York. Call three contractors, get their bids, and depending upon your assessment of the contractor, make your choice.

If you want to save a fedw bucks, you might try this:

Carrying the sheets down the basement is something that sometimes takes a lot of time. If you can find a drywall worker to do a job for you on the side, he might do it pretty cheap if you buy the product, bring it home, and have it sitting in the basement, ready to go.

You didn't say how you planned to tape and bed the joints. Normally that is done by the same contractor. If you are thinking of doing some stuff yourself, it is way easier to hang it than to do a good job taping it, if you are inexperienced.
