I just finished putting a coat of paint on my bathroom walls. First I used interior Latex PVA Primer and then applied Behr Premium Plus Interior Semi-Gloss Enamel. I have several questions/problems.

First off, when I applied the paint, and stroked back over spots, the paint came off. Is this because it is the first layer of paint? Am I using the wrong kind of paint with plaster walls/wrong kind of Primer. If I am, what do you suggest?

Secondly, I have read that Behr is not that great of a paint, naturally after having done the first part of this project. I am planning to put a second and/or third coat on the bathroom walls. Should I just stick with Behr, or could I switch to another brand. Basically what I want to know is, if I switch to another paint, could I be doing more harm than good.

Thank you very much.

What do you mean by the paint came off? You could see the brush strokes or roller marks?

What color is the paint?

How long between applying the primer and the paint?

Since you've already put on one coat of Behr, just use it for the second coat. Whatever you use for the second coat will only be as good as whats under it at this point.

When paint is intially applied and beginning its drying cycle it will briefly go thru a "plastic" stage where if you go back over it, it will peel away. If you're going to go back over something you've done, you either have to do it right away, or way until it is dry. This "peel away" period is only temporary. Of course I'm assuming it's not peeling for some other reason, like for instance you're trying to paint over a contaminant. Behr is perfectly Ok paint, it's certainly not the best, but it isn't the worst either.

PVA primer is for use on NEW drywall surfaces only. The properties in drywall primer are less than a primer made for priming over previously painted surfaces...Seeing that you used an enamel topcoat (semi-gloss) you should use a enamel undercoat primer.
