Is there really a difference in the actual "texture" of RL paint that ensures the suede effect - or is the actual effect created by the roller/brush process? I prefer to use a different brand of paint as have had bad experiences with the RL.

Also, does this "special" roller really make a difference as well - I just don;t see it - all I've heard is bad things

the suede paint is NOT the same as just any ordinary paint. The paint has "beads" in it (as does the Riverrock that Ralph makes). The use of the special roller is needed to "release" these beads onto the wall and not be left in the pile of the roller. You should follow the directions given for the aplication of the paint,as this technique is NOT the same as just painting a wall.

What he said. Ralph Lauren texture paints are tough to apply, and are worse now than when Sherwin Williams manufactured the paint for Ralph Lauren. Follow the directions closely to avoid mishaps, or you will be one of those people telling others bad stories about Ralph Lauren paint.
