I recently bought a house and the hardwood floors are painted. I was wondering if anyone has tried removing paint from hardwood floors and if it's a do-it-yourself project?

I think the best to remove the paint off of the floors would be with a floor sander and if you are handy you could do this yourself. Now bear in mind some of the paint may still stay between the boards and you will not be able to get that out.
