Is it possible to wallpaper over paneling? I bought an old house built in 1968 and the den and kitchen are in paneling. Or would it easyer to just paint over it?

I papered over paneling ten years ago and it still looks fine. I’ve even stripped the first paper off and applied another. Here’s what I did: First make sure the paneling is firmly secured to the wall. Use finishing nails into studs where loose. Clean the surface making sure to get into the vertical groves. Next apply spackling to the grooves which may take two coats due to shrinkage then sand flat. Sand the entire surface not just the spackle. Apply a water based primer to the entire surface. Repeat with second coat of primer. Now you’re ready to paper.

I chose to do this because the paneling I had was both nailed and glued to the drywall. Removing the paneling would have stripped off the paper on the drywall making it unfit for paint or paper. I did not want to go through the big messy job of replacing my drywall.

Sounds good but don't use nales I would use screws, they won't back out over time through the wall paper.
