The front of my two-story home faces the morning sun. There is one spot I'd like to plant a tree - it sits 4 feet from an asphalt driveway, 12 feet from a concrete sidewalk, and about 20 feet from the closest edge of the home. It also sits about 20 feet away from a 4 year-old Bradford Pear tree. I'd like a tree that meets a couple criteria: fast growing, deep-rooted so as not to buckle sidewalk or driveway, wind damage resistant, and has a canopy that will eventually provide good shade from the summer sun. Any suggestions? Need to plant soon!

Such a tree does not exist. "Fast growing" and "wind damage resistant" are mutually exclusive.

Compromises are available. Some maples will grow fast and not disturb a sidewalk. One example is Red Sunset Maple. I have two that I planted 7 1/2 years ago and so far the roots have not surfaced.
