I painted my family room walls with Ralph Lauren Satine paint in Oar Lock (a deep cranberry red color). I love the effect but am having problems with the walls now. Any time something touched the wall, it leaves a mark. I tried removing these marks with a damp cloth, only to find red pigment on the cloth, and even more marks on the wall. I still need to hang a border but can't due to thie problem. Any suggestions? Anything I can use to seal the walls? Thanks

Wendy.......I am glad I got to you before the "Haters of Ralph" did!

Tell me exactly which product you used? What is the product number? When did you buy it? How did you apply it?

Let me know before you do anything else.....

Mr Paint:
The product we used was Ralph Lauren "Interior Satin--Premium Quality Acrylic Latex." The color is Oar Lock #SO02C. Don't know what the product #is. We bought it at home depot 11/30/02, and applied it over the next couple of days. The walls were already painted with flat latex paint--builder applied. We rolled on five coats, letting each one dry before adding another. Thats about it--your thoughts??? Thanks

Wendy.....call your Home Depot store and ask for the Voice Mail number of their Glidden Rep.

The number will be 1-800-344-8042 - and then his or her seven digit number.

If you do not here from anyone by Wednesday....let me know........

Thanks..

Mr. Paint:
I took your advice and called the Glidden Rep. He basically told me I would need to seal the walls with a water based varnish or poly., but was unable to recommend any specific products. All the ones I have looked at at the store were for wood. Can these also be used over paint on walls? I realize I would have to test a spot first. Do you recommend any particular ones?
Thanks for your help!!!

I have another thought as to why this may be happening. It takes a mininum of 30 days for acrylic/layex paints to cure and it can take longer with a dark color. That could be your problem as I find it hard to believe that with a satin finish the color would wipe off. So you may just need to give it more time to cure out. If this does not fix it I would call that Glidden rep back and have them give you some acrylic urethane to coat your walls and I would think as big as ICI/Glidden is they would have an acrylic urethan of their own.
Good luck.
