high wind, cold weather roof

I am getting conflicting stories on the kind of roof I need. Steel or 50 year Architectual 110 mile asphalt.I live in a very high wind area, with cold winters. What is best?

actually either one would be good, the regular shingles are going to be cheaper and make less noise when it rains.
