I just bought a home that was built in 1958..we have popcorn ceiling and want to get rid of it...how do i know if the ceiling contains asbestos..thks

You need to have it tested by a professional. Because of all the hype and litigation over asbestos, nobody will (or should) touch a DIY test kit.
Remember that asbestos is harmful if you inhale it, so be sure to wear a good mask if you do disturb it.
