I have two old plaster walls leading to my basement that have holes. I tried repairing them my putting compound and all it did was remain soft and create another hole. I heard there is a paint that goes on like stucco that can repair the walls. Do you know the name of the paint or how i can repair it without knocking down all the walls?

What kind of "putting" compound did you use?
The best way to fill in plaster walls is to first be sure its a plaster wall filler youre using. The paint youre refering to is often called popcorn paint, depending on how rough the surface was originlly. It can be bought right out of the gallon at most any home repair chain or store. Also when applying the plaster compound, do it in thinner layers and let it dry good before applying another coat, to prevent cracking.
