In one of the episodes I have watched, Bob and crew were painting over woodwork that was previously painted years ago and had some damage to it. The paint was thicker? than a normal paint and filled to some of the dings and alagator look to the wookwork. I have similar areas in my house and I would like to see if this paint would work, rather than milling the casing new.

What is the name of this type of paint and where could it be found.

Alligatored paint is paint that is about to fail - so I would not suggest painting over it.

Latex paint doesn't "bridge" - that is fill in cracks, lines, and dings. It may look like it has when it is wet - but when it dries - you will see all that again.

Alkyds bridge to some extent - but they are thinner - so they don't fill well.

Basically - if you want a smooth surface - follow good painting practice - remove the uneven/unsound paint - prime, and then repaint.
