During the move, some of the corners of walls got damaged. I know that to fill in nail holes, you use spackle compound. Do you do the same for damaged (smashed in) corners?

You can but i like to use auto-body bondo,it adheres better and you can form it for the shape easier, sometimes the spackle will fall or sink and leave you with always adding to it till it gets right.
Bondo you put it on sand it down prime then use a skim coat of spakle, reprime i'd do 2 coats of primer then 2 coats of paint.
