I just removed my popcorn ceiling from my living room..well it didnt come out as smooth as the bedrooms so its kinda rough still. i want to plaster it smooth or texture it somehow. i do not want to drywall the ceiling..but i do want it that smooth. what is the best method and can this be done myself or is a professional needed. ?

There are products similar to drywall compound which are made for texturing or smoothing surfaces.I would say that it stays wet long enough for a do-it-yourselfer to work with and do a decent job.Check at the home center.
