Sorry if this is the wrong place..not sure where to post this.

We have a one car garage that stinks to high heaven. I can't stand it - so much so that I dread going in there. I know part of the problem is ventilation. There are no windows that I could crack to let fresh air in. Currently we use it for storage as it's too small to fit a car in. I know the previous owners had their dogs living there. I've tried scrubbing the floor w/ concrete cleaner but to no avail.

Any recommendations for making it smell better? I'm thinking of painting and sealing the concrete floor - do you think this will help? Thanks!!

Hey there Melanie,

We were just out with another couple who are looking to buy a loft in downtown Denver. They said there's an old (100-year old or so) converted building where they used to keep horses--and you can STILL smell them. Wow.

Probably not too reassuring for your problem. But there have been several posts on animal odors here--it may be worth a search. I seem to recall a product that neutralizes odors (not just cover them up)--which I think was available at pet stores or some hardware stores (sorry, I don't recall the name).

I kind of like the paint idea (although I don't have definitive expertise in this area). At least the fresh paint would smell good...

Good luck,
k2 in CO.

You could seal the floor with shellac and that will hold the odor back and you can get it in clear. It may take 2 or 3 coats depending on how strong the odor is.
