Vinyl, aluminum, steel...which of these is best? I know vinyl is probably less expensive but I have heard it fades easily and will crack when it is cold. I heard steel siding doesn't fade as easily, but it may be noisy and will dent easily. Aluminum, I am not sure, I know it is expensive.

I am looking at replacing my siding in the next year or so since I don't want to have to paint(too many other things to do with my spare time!!!)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aluminum siding dents and scratches easily. Vinyl does have color all the way through but some 'thinner' types are subject to cracking, hail damage and cold weather damage. Have not had experience with steel but it can scratch and rust and dent. Whatever you do, consider adding a house wrap (if none already installed) before installing new siding. Will block many air leaks and improve insulation effectiveness.

I agree with the prevoius responce. Vinyl siding today is much better then it use to be. And ALL siding fades, but vinyl has additives which help reduce fade. Lastly, make sure you use vinyl which is at least .044 thickness, and a housewrap, like Tyvek, will be worth the couple of extra bucks.
It is best to find an installation company who has been around at least 5 yrs. and that you are comfortable with. And remember, if you fell like it is too good a deal to be true, and the salemen is trying to get you to sign up tonight, it is too good to be true.

Good Luck!

I live in a rough climate (Montreal) and most new homes over the last 15 years have been built with aluminum siding. From experience, I have never had to touch the siding other then an occasionnal wash down. The siding stays new and does not discolor. It can dent or scratch but this has never been a problem for me. It seems to be the best thing out there.

Good luck
