My inlaws purchased an expensive bunk bed for my son... Now we are putting the top bunk in my 2 year old daughters room, and I want to change its look.
It has a clear stain on pine wood. I'd like to give it a more white wash look...
I have NO clue how to go about this. Does the original stain have to be sanded or removed? And then what? What exactly is white wash? A stain or paint?

Yes,it has to be sanded,removed some how.
A white wash is pretty much a pickling stain,you will get the same exact look go to any paint store,and tell them the color you'd like and they will custom tint to what you want in a pickling stain,then apply it the way you would anyother stain,the longer you leave it on before you wipe it off the darker it get.
I apply mine with a wooster stain brush a 2 or 3" will work good for you,i'd say a 2" or 2.5" 3 might be kinda big for a bed.Then apply with the brush it will run a bit just brush it in doing say a nice section at a time.wait about 2 minutes and wipe it down with a clean rag.
