House built in 1948 and has wood panaling. Do i have to do more than wash the walls, prime it, then paint? Is there a particular primer i need to use? How many hours do you wait in between washing the walls, priming etc.? thanks for any help.

You will want to wipe down the paneling with mineral spirits and follow that with a wash of amonia and water and if the finish on the paneling is really glossy you should sand first.

The primer to use is Zinsser BIN. The finsih paint can be the latex finish paint of your choice.
