Updating a 1970s kitchen: 30 yr old oak cabinets and handles have base plates that I want to remove. There is now some discoloration from sun where plates were. We don't get a lot of direct sun in the kitchen, but it's been 30 years since these handle pulls have been removed. Are there any options besides stripping and restaining? (Formby's have a "Miracle Goo" for example?) There's enough to tackle in this house; I'd like to keep this job smaller if possible.

I don't think that there is a way to get the cabinets even without removing the finish and starting over. The sun has faded the stain in the areas that were not covered by the plates.
