I installed a new light fixture, and there is a hole behind it that is wider than the base of the fixture so I need to patch drywall. It's about a one inch by 1.5 inch spot that is exposed, the rest is behind the base of the light fixutre....How do I fix this?

If the hole is too large to spackle, you'd need something to attach a drywall patch to.

Since you're talking about such a small hole, you might be able to glue or screw a small piece of wood up there, straddling the hole. Then affix the patch with construction adhesive to the wood (a screw will probably break a patch that small).

You might be able to spackle it instead--even taking 2 tries if needed.
