Here’s my dilemma. I’m replacing my baseboards when I noticed two walls measuring 4’ x 8’ have an inward bow of half of an inch at the center. Should I mud the wall or just replace the drywall. If I mud the walls, should I layer the mud?

This post is a bit unclear (at least to me)--but what the heck, I'll start it off.

Two 4x8' walls--so I guess this is a foyer? or ?

As for the "center"--do you mean that the bow is noticeable at the center of the baseboard, or at the center of the wall (say, 4' high up)? I guess I ask because I wonder if (for some reason) the existing drywall might not be firmly attached to studs--or coming off for some reason.

These questions aside, I'd doubt that mudding such a large area like that would be a good idea. I would go so far as to say--(assuming drywall isn't falling off the wall)--why not leave it alone? I mention this because there is no perfect house--and it wasn't noticeable until you were replacing baseboards. (You could do more harm than good.)

Also don't forget that new drywall would follow the wall's shape as well; it also might be bowed.

Anyway, please post a reply with some more specifics; maybe someone will be able to assist.
