We are currently replacing our paneling in our living room for dry wall and have arrived at the texture stage. A friend of ours said that you could add primer paint to the texture material when you spray to save you a step. Everywhere we have read recommends primering the drywall and then texturing. Any input on this would be great.

You should prime the walls first as adding primer to the texture does not save a step. Now if you are not going to paint the texture you can cut back on the water you add to the texture and substitute paint and this will make the texture harder than the texture alone.

There are so many types of textures one can apply to a wall...I have not heardof anyone adding primer to the texture as a way of skipping a step. I wouldn't recommend doing that-if it works, great, but if it doesn't work...yikes.
