I have removed the wallpaper from the bathroom. The drywall underneath has never been painted before. The backing paper from the wall paper is still on. Can I size the walls with a kilz type product and paint or do I need to remove the backing paper?

If I have to remove the backing paper do I need to put on a kilz type product before painting.

Idealy you want to remove the backing but often times when the wall has not been sealed up removing it will tear up the face paper of the drywall. In those cases you can then prime over the backing as long as it is on the wall tight and smooth, with an oil based primer, and then you can topcoat it with the finish paint of your choice.
