I need to repaint the baseboards in my house. They were painted 20 years ago with oil based paint and have some gouges in them. I want to smooth out the gouges but don’t know what grade of steel wool to use. I’d rather use steel wool than sandpaper because it’s flexible.

How about a sanding sponge? They are flexible and are easy to hold in your hand. As far as steel wool I would go with #1 or #2 to do this tpye of sanding.

Sanding sponges are so expensive and I've got a lot of baseboards to do. I'll try the #1 or #2 steel wool. Thanks!
