I just recently purchased a new exterior door and finishing requires a stain/sealer combo. Does anyone know where this can be purchased? Or any other suggestions. The wood is Douglas Fir.

Thanks

Most stains say that they seal the wood but if you do not put a protective finish over them they do not hold up very well and especially on an exterior exposure.

I would stain the door with Minwax Oil Based stain in your desired color and finish with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane on the exterior face, top, bottom and both edges. Be sure to apply three coats to all these surfaces, and sand lightly between coats.

This will give you a good finish but keep an eye on it as depending on the exposure you may have to reapply the finish every 18 to 24 months.
