What is the best, most durable paint I can use to paint the interior wood trim - baseboards, etc? I do not want to use oil based paint.

Is this new or repaint work?

If it is old what type of paint is on the woodwork now? Is it oil based or latex?

same paint the builder used when the house was built in 1999 - feels and looks like flat latex white.

That seems odd that all your woodwork would be painted with a flat latex, which is what is used on your walls. Does your trim look like it has the same paint on it as your walls?

To be sure it is latex you need to invest in a small can of GOOF OFF to test to see if you do have latex on your trim. The GOOF OFF will soften latex paint but not oil based. If you do have latex on your trim, a good choice would be Sherwin Williams Interior Super Paint Acrylic Latex Semi-Gloss. If you do indeed have flat on your trim you will need to apply two coats to get an even sheen and to give you added durability. You should also get some fine sanding sponges to sand out any rough spots before you apply the paint.

Check out Cabinet-Coat by Insl-x. This stuff is fantastic! Available thru most ACE stores. They can order it if they don't carry it.

* Clean, sand, & prime your trims/any doors.

* Sand well-dried primer if you're REAL fussy.

* Use a HIGH-quality brush for Latex, and apply one full coat with just a few strokes...then STAY OUT OF IT 'till next day so it can level itself out.

* Lighly sand this coat with 220. One more full, even coat...don't overbrush!

* Come back next'll be stunned, I promise.
