I just bought an exterior/entry door (unfinished) constructed of mahogony. I want to paint the exterior white and stain the interior to match existing trim. Please HELP me with the type of paint and primer I should use for the exterior and the stain and finish (polyurethane? number of coats?) for the interior. Is there such a thing as white stain for the exterior finish or should it be painted latex or oil? Thanks much for your help.

There are white stains but on a dark wood such as mahogany it will not look all that white.

I would prime the exterior with an exterior oil based primer (Not KILZ) such as Sherwin Williams A-100 oil primer and finish with an acrylic semi-gloss or gloss exterior paint and apply two coats of the finish paint.

The interior stain should be an oil based stain such as Minwax and follow this with at least two coats of the polyurethane finish of your choice.
