Has anyone ever plastered and painted over the old 1'X 1'ceiling tiles before? To make them seem to be drywall instead of old tile.

Did you ever do anything to get the tiles to look closer to smooth sheetrock for painting? I want to do something to improve look and don't know what.

I have painted 1' x 1' ceiling tile before and they turned out pretty good.
I don't think I would use compound over them. The surface is not stable enough. It would probably crack and blister.
If it looks that bad I would tear the tile down. Attach 1/4" or 3/8" drywall to the furring strips.
Thanks
