drywall mud and color

Is it there a way to tint/color drywall mud (as can be done with plaster) without it losing its integrity? I would like to give my walls a plaster look; was wondering if I could tint the mud and then seal with a glaze.

You can add latex paint to drywall mud and get the color you want. You can add up to a gallon of paint to a 5 gallon bucket of mud.
