I have a modular home. The kitchen area is approximately 12'x20' and is covered by linoleum. The floor joists are 2"x8"x13'. I would like to remove the linoleum and install another covering. The problem that I feel needs to be addressed first is the floor is not firm enough. About 6 of the floor joists do not run entirely across. They are suspended between the adjacent joists. Also some of the 5/8" plywood sub flooring is starting to squeak. I was thinking of adding 2"x6" lateral bracing every 4" to secure all the joists to prevent lateral movement and hopefully firm up the floor. Is there something else?
