Yes. I've installed 12" x 12" marble tiles before and any "cut" edge was always dull. I ended up using a varnish or polyurethane and it shined just like the factory finish. Just rub it on with a rag. It doesn't take much. The project I had done was a tub suround. Being that your doing a kitchen counter, make sure you use something safe around food preparation.
