Hi. The entryway to my house has a slate floor. The problem is that its ugly - dingy brown/gray/black. Is there anyway to refinish the floor? How about putting something over it (I only have about 1/2 inch before the door wouldn't open over a raised floor), painting a faux finish on it, etc.? It looks like it has a polyurethane surface. What type of prep is needed before considering a refinishing project? Or is there a way to strip and brighten/lighten up the color? This may be as much a decorating question as it is a how to question, so any ideas would be welcome.
