Under the carpet in my 1919 house is that hard linoleum (like in schools). Under that is what my dad calls the subfloor. I want to remove the carpet and tile and fix up the original flooring. My dad doesn't think the subfloor is meant to be the actual floor. But if not, what did they walk on before the floor was tiled?
The subfloor seems to be some kind of softer wood... pine or maybe something else. It is tounge and grooved, but may have spaces between the surface of the boards. Can this floor be uncovered and finished, or does it need to have regular hardwood flooring put over it to be a viable wood floor?
