I'm a beginning DIYer & would like to do something with my current ceramic tile kitchen backsplash. The tile is all in good shape so I don't want to tear it out but I don't like the color/patter. Can I paint over it? If so, how?

Thanks!

Hi lac,

Visit Painting Ceramic Tile Backsplash. (You're in luck!)

Personally, I wouldn't do it because of the possibility of paint chips getting in my food over time. Also, depending on the amount of heat in the painted area, it could 'blister' the paint, thus causing it to 'fail'. In short, you're looking to convert a maintenance-free material into one that now requires maintenance. It just creates more work for you.

My best to ya and hope this helps.

lac,IT MAY BE POSSIBLE TO TILE RIGHT OVER THE BACKSPLASH YOU NOW HAVE USING A MULTI PURPOSE MASTIC.THE RIGHT WAY TO DO THE JOB WOULD BE TO REMOVE THE OLD TILE.BUT IT IS POSSIBLE TO TILE OVER TILE USING THE RIGHT SETTING MATERIALS,THINK ABOUT GOING OVER THE EXISTING TILE.DO NOT PAINT OVER CERAMIC TILE.
