He had a heart pine installation by "Mountain Lumber" or something lately. I missed it. It says "moderate cost" in the episode notes but in TV Land moderate cost could mean anything.

If a guy quotes me $15 per square foot for wide-plank reclaimed heart pine floor (material cost only), am I doing OK?

Or am I getting seriously hosed?

As far as I know and have heard, Heart Pine is not available in the wild anymore. The old-growth Pine forests of the South were wiped out in the early 1900s. They now reclaim Heart pine from two sources: old warehouses that are being demolished that used heart Pine as a building material, and submerged logs that were harvested last century, but sank while travelling to the mill on the river and never made it there.

Thus, it will cost a bit more than your ordinary, common oak flooring. However, $15 per square foot still sounds rather expensive. Check out www.HeartPine.com.
