Question: It's my understanding that 9" and 12" floor tiles made prior to 1981 contain asbestos. Three rooms of my house had these tiles installed either in the late 60's or early 70's. The tiles in one of the room show some hairline cracks and am wondering if there is some possible asbestos danger involved here.

I would like to remove these tiles and refinish the hardwood floor underneath them. But I've been informed not to do anything that will create dust. Any comments out there on how to best handle the issue of removing these tiles while avoiding polluting the house with asbestos dust?
