We plan on also putting down wood in the hallway so the rooms all flow together. Our question...we don't want put wood in the kitchen due to cost and function. Any suggestions on what flooring would look nice when it meets the wood hallway? We like the look of natural materials and are working within a stricter budget. Is it appropriate to have a grey stone-looking laminate/vinyl/etc. meet the brown wood hallway floor, or would that look funny?

Other Flooring in Kitchen
We are finding under the old carpet is hard wood floors pretty much throughout the house, except the hallway and kitchen. We plan on exposing the wood in our complete house renovation.
wood is not a color, everything go's with wood. you just have to like it. ceramic tile, which you can buy for as low as .69 from your local home center, would be the best choice. they also have class's on how to install it yourself. its easy just follow the basic steps. pulling up the old flooring may be hard. good luck
