Bvflooring
I plan on putting down new vinyl flooring (Armstrong) My exsisting floor is pretty solid with just a few small tears, but their is some bleed through color coming through the old vinyl.(possibly thre old subfloor wasn't cleaned properly?)
I have had 3 quotes, one wants to tear out old vinyl and subfloor, another wants to lay new subfloor on top of old vinyl, yet another says embossing leveler will work just fine, that my floor is solid.
Will this embossing leveler prevent further bleed through from my old vinyl and subfloor?
Thanks in advance.

how many layers of vinyl do you have now ?is the new one the 3rd layer,if so its time to tear out the old stuff and start over, if you add another layer with just an embossing leveler the floor will be soft and fail much sooner, capping off with new underlayment will work but the level of the floor is now higher, good luck

This is the original floor, so their is only one layer. That's why I didn't see the need to pull it up. The person that gave me that quote said he that he uses 1/4 plywood subfloor and my original floor has 1/4 luan (s/p?) over the 3/4" subfloor. He doesn't like to use luan and apparently doesn't like to install the plywood subfloor over luan either, I guess thats why he wants to pull it up.
Do you think 1/4 plywoood over the existing floor would be sufficient?
Thanks again...

as this is only the 2nd layer you can prep the floor and lay over with out new underlayment(next time is when you pull up everything) if this was my house thats the way i would go.if you have any doubts then a 1/4" a-sided plywood would be a good way to do it,one thing i tell my customers is that the second time you buy the best possible vinyl, because the third time is the big money. p.s.which vinyl are you using? good luck

carpetman -thank you for your quick responses.
We have two armstrong products we are trying to decide on.They are both sheet vinyl. One is called "destinations". I think this is a new line that they carry.
The other is called rhythms. They both carry the 15 year warranty and have clean sweep surface and tough guard durability.
Are you familiar with these products from armstrong?
Thanks again...

about the warranty, armstrong's clean sweep it's the best there is,a few years ago i had a customer who called me back to say she could not get the floor clean,i looked at the floor and asked what she was using to clean it,she showed a bottle of armstrong "once and done" i asked if she had used anything else, she said no,only that.after i got back to the shop i had a message from armstrong to replace the floor,(she had call the warranty hot line as soon as i left her house) i did not even get to tell armstrong the silver foil in side the cap of the the once and done was still there. she had never opened the bottle.

That's good to know about the warranty.
I sure didn't know that rhythms had twice the the wear thickness as destinations, the salesman said that they were both very close. Destinations was cheaper though, approx 22/yd vs 32/yd
I will check out the ultima product though. I appreciate the advice. Thanks...
