We have laminated wood flooring in our living/dining room and master bedroom. Some of the high traffic areas need to be refinished. Any suggestions?

First question, is it real wood? If it is then yes it can be refinished just like any hardwood floor. If it isnt real wood, no you cant refinish it.
Second Question, you can get a finish restore kit from the home centers for about 50 bucks. It has a cleaner, an etcher, and the finisher all in the one kit so you can put a new finish on the floor all by yourself, its easy and can be done in one day depending on the size of the room.
