I am preparing to have a contractor install a replacement asphalt shingle roof on my home. I am having problems with the existing chimney flashing leaking. How far should the new chimney flashing extend up the roof slope beneath the shingles? I have been told I do not need a cricket due to limited roof area above the chimney penetration.

Depends on the roof pitch, size of chimney, and roof run above the flashing. Sometimes eight inches, sometimes twenty.

Excellence is its own reward!
