Removing Carpeting to paint cement...

We are removing the carpeting in our living room in order to paint a faux finish on the cement. Two question I was hoping for help with:
1. What is the best way to patch the holes left in the cement from pulling up the carpet tack strips?
2. What kind of transition is best between the cement floor and the carpeting in the hallway and also between the cement floor and the tile in the entry way?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hmmmmm, interesting... I don't think I've ever seen a living room with a cement floor (at least not in the areas I've lived, which have generally been colder climes). I would question whether you really want one (as it's not really the "homiest" surface). Perhaps could affect resale value as well.

Obviously if it's what you want and would be happy with, go for it....but perhaps you might be happier with a 'warmer' surface (pergo, wood, carpet, etc)...especially come wintertime. Just a humble opinion, and it could be that if you live somewhere like Florida (or other warmer areas I'm not too familiar with), it may make perfect sense...

We live in Texas... The carpet was getting to be in bad shape and needed to be trashed. Would like to install hardwoods but don't have the $ right now so this is an interim fix. We did a room like this in a previous house and got rave reviews, my wife is an artist so her faux finishes usually turn out incredible. Cross your fingers for me.

you can use floorpatch (portland cement) available from home depot,look for pergo transitions (they will go over cement )i think what you need is a pergo "hard surface" transition .good luck.

p.s. i have seen quite a few painted floors ,one lady i know painted a "wood " floor with paintrd " rugs" under the furniture
