Can wide boards be used to construct an oak floor? I am planning to install a an oak floor in my living room. I have a beautiful stack of 18" wide red oak boards that are quite clear of knots. I would like to install them at full width. I have installed a subfloor of 3/4" fir plywood and plan to surface nail the boards with cut nails. They will be tongue and groved and are kiln dried. I plan to finish them on all sides before installation. Oviously, I an worried about cupping. The room will be somewhat rustic, so minor uneveness I can put up with. Will this work, and how close together should I nail? Does anyone know a good place to get these cut nails?

- Wide oak board floor
it sounds like a floor you would have seen in the 1600's to 1700's,they used wide boards back then.i'm not sure but i don't think they T & G back then, they did use cut nails( i'm not sure where you will find them) leave a gap about a penney wide (spacer) to allow for expansion ,cupping is always a problem for wide planks.not much you can do about that, just enjoy your floor,it sounds great....good luck
